Tell us a little bit more about yourself.
My name is Corinth, I make coffee for a living. I grew up in the Philippines but moved to the Yukon, Canada three years ago. I married my best friend Jorge and I met him through Instagram! How crazy is that? We enjoy driving out of town and exploring places we have not yet discovered around the Yukon. We hope to travel around the world someday! I mainly shoot with my iPhone 5s and sometimes, with my Canon 7D. I enjoy taking pictures of landscapes, portraits of my family and my everyday life. I also enjoy VLOGGING when I have the time. I run a blog and I mainly post lifestyle, beauty, fashion and sometimes, photography posts.
Do you have any quirky facts that people do not know about?
I was in a TV show production when I was 10 years old. It was for the welcoming of the year 2000 and I was in a dance number for this big TV network. It was pretty awesome to be around famous celebrities.
Would you rather get everything you have ever asked for (material things) or find the love of your life?
If you asked me this 5 years ago, I would have answered “to find the love of my life” but now that I am married, I want to have all the makeup products I want! HAHA.
What is one exotic country you would like to visit? What you would do there?
Somewhere in Asia where I can just relax by the beach all day, everyday! <3
Why did you decide to shift/migrate to Yukon, Canada?
My dad passed away in the year 1999 so my sisters and I became orphans when my mom passed 5 years ago. My uncle and his wife promised my mom that they would help us and so here we are now, living in the Yukon!
How was your childhood like growing up?
My childhood was great! I’m really proud to be a 90’s kid! I remember playing outside in the streets in Philippines and having so much fun in our garage. My cousins and I would re-enact Nickelodeon shows and we’d end up getting wet and muddy!
What is your motivation in life?
I know God placed me in this world for a purpose, and that purpose is to make His name known! This is what motivates me to write, to take photos, to explore. I want to share God’s existence through the things I create and share to the world.
What is one thing you love doing and why?
I love being out exploring in nature! I find it really relaxing when I’m walking on trails and when I’m surrounded by trees and the sounds of nature.
What is something you dislike in Yukon?
The lack of shopping centres and our nasty Movie Theatres! I live in a province!
“We enjoy driving out of town and exploring places we have not yet discovered around the Yukon.” – Are there any interesting places you have discovered?
Jorge and I really love it when we discover lakes and secret back roads to a really epic high point!
Do you have any memorable experiences with your family in Canada?
I guess the memorable experiences I had with them would be the long drives outside of Whitehorse.
There are quite a number of lakes in Yukon, where do you normally go to for photography works?
We usually go to Long Lake or Schwatka Lake because these are the closest lakes to our house, they’re just 5-10 minutes away.
Yukon is a top travel bucket list for most people. What are the top 5 things to do / places you recommend for first time visitors to the place you call home?
- Visit and walk the trails at Miles Canyon. THIS IS WHERE JORGE AND I GOT MARRIED! The water is mesmerizing! If you get a chance, you should also get a boat ride on that river!
- Drive to Kluane to see the glaciers! The ride can be expensive because you’ll have to fly out but I think it’s really worth seeing. This is something Jorge and I wish to do before we leave for the US.
- See Dawson City. It’s a 6-hour drive from Whitehorse but it’s a place worth checking out.
- Come up in the fall or winter time. It’s the perfect season to catch Auroras dancing in the night sky!
- Lastly, just be one with nature. If you want a change of pace and if you want to just relax and enjoy being alive, Yukon is the place to be because everywhere you look, you’re reminded of how amazing the world we live in is.
Do you have any interesting experiences while you were working as barista?
The fact that I am able to create a really good espresso drink is an amazing thing for me!
Which café do you work in and why there?
I work at The Claim Food and Co. and I’ve worked there for three years now. I can say that we are the best coffee shop in town, and I’m not just saying that because I work there; we really are the best! Haha.
What is your favorite coffee that you make daily?
A Double Mocha! OMG! If only I can make you a cup right now to let you taste how amazing our mochas are, I would!
Is it difficult to make a good cup of coffee? Can do you any latte art?
It’s difficult if you have zero knowledge about espresso! But with proper training, you can be a good barista in one week! I can make the famous rosetta design easy! And sometimes I can make a butterfly too. But the easiest design I can make is a swirly swirl. HAHA.
Now comes the story that everyone has been eagerly awaiting! Tell us how you met your husband Jorge through Instagram!
Jorge found me through the #sky hashtag! He came across a photo of the sky that I posted on Instagram and we started chatting through the Kik app because it’s what I had on my Instagram bio at the time. We talked every day and we didn’t get tired of each other! We eventually moved to texting, iMessage, sending voice messages and then we eventually video chatted. We had constant communication which I think is one of the most important things in a relationship.
When did you fell completely head over heels for him and how did you maintain your long distance relationship?
I know it’s crazy to fall in love with someone you’ve never met in person ever, but it happened to me! I was actually the first one to drop the L word and I was so happy when Jorge felt the same way. That was in March 3, 2013.
We made it work through constant communication and honestly, it’s because of God. If it wasn’t for God’s wonderful love, Jorge and I wouldn’t have loved each other the way we do. If a relationship is set on a strong foundation, I don’t think anything could ever break it. Jorge and I set our relationship on God’s rock, and here we are now, happily married. <3
Read the whole love story and Jorge’s perspective here.
Do you think you would have met the love of your life if you did not create an Instagram account?
I don’t really know. I strongly believe that God intended Jorge for me to marry so I guess even if I didn’t have an Instagram account, I would have met him through a different way. I don’t know if that made sense, but in our case, God used Instagram to bridge our ridiculous distance. HAHA.. I’m just so grateful for it!
What is something you both love to do?
We love taking pictures and editing pictures! We also love watching Game of Thrones and we love to EAT!
Where and how was your first date?
We had our first date at the coffee shop where I work at. HAHA. I wanted to show him where I worked and I told you, we are the best coffee shop in town!
Describe each of your personality in the relationship?
Jorge is the more affectionate one and I am Mr. Grumpy. HAHA.
What is the most romantic memory you have with Jorge?
The most romantic memory I have with him would be the day he proposed to me at Niagara Falls. It was the most perfect birthday! I just loved Jorge so much and I knew he was the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with. There was no point in denying it by prolonging the relationship just to be sure. We were both sure and we didn’t want to waste any time.
I wrote all about it .
What was the best moment in your relationship and married life so far?
My most favorite moments of my married life is the time we spend together talking about life, our dreams, our interests, and our passions. And of course, I love our cuddling time!
Why do you prefer to shoot mainly on your iPhone 5s then compared with your Canon 7D?
My iPhone is 100x lighter than my 7D and I love that I can edit and post a photo whenever I want.
If a person were to look at your photographs, do you think they can tell a difference between them?
Absolutely! I love showing depth of field when I use my DSLR and I can almost never get that with my iPhone shots.
Do you have any particular style of photography?
I like sharing my life and my experiences and most of the time, my captions relate to the picture because I want my photos to tell a story. I want people to feel and see what I felt and saw when I captured that moment. I guess that’s my style of photography.
Does anyone/anything in particular inspire you to hone your photography skills?
Jorge always strives me to be better at everything I do. Also, my Instagram feed is a constant inspiration to become a better photographer.
How do you normally edit your photographs?
I use VSCOcam to edit my iPhone pictures and I use Lightroom 5 for my DSLR photos, of course, using VSCO Film packs.
What is your favourite VSCO filter/pack?
My Favourite VSCO Cam packs would be the Analog, Minimalist, Chromatic and Essense Packs. VSCO FILM - I love packs 5 and 6.
How would you describe your blog in a few sentences that would entice our readers?
I started ExploreWithCorinth.com on January 2014. Explore with Corinth is my creative outlet. It’s where I share my thoughts about life, beauty, fashion and my travels, basically, my explorations in every aspect of my life, hence, the name of my blog. My blog is my happy place because it’s where I am able to share what’s inside my heart, freely. <3
What made you start the blog?
I needed to feel happy! I was stuck in a depressed state when I started my blog. I wanted to start something I know would keep me busy, would keep me sane and I think it really helped. I was able to turn all my negative energy into something nice and productive.
If you could give a piece of advice to couples in a budding relationship, what would it be?
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
What could we expect from you in the future?
More explorations and more photos and stories about life and my experiences!
